Benefitting Homeward Bound WNC

"We’re a nonprofit organization ending homelessness in Buncombe and Henderson Counties of North Carolina. More than that, we’re non-judgmental staff, volunteers, board members, and people knowledgeable in social work disciplines who believe in the “Housing First” national best practice for ending homelessness. Mostly, we’re people who care about the most vulnerable among us enough to do something about it."

100% of proceeds from Grapple for Good go to Homeward Bound

REGISTRATION INFO

PARTICIPANTS & SPECTATORS

Anyone from any school and any level is invited to participate and have fun all while helping community members in need. This is an "absolute" only competition which means there are no weight/age/level divisions - just ONE division. Kids are welcome to sign up if their parents sign off, however they will be competing against adults.

Spectators are encouraged to come and support their friends, support Homeward Bound, have a drink and have a good time.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

One absolute division. This tournament follows a single-elimination style, and is just one, giant bracket. We will try and initially pair up athletes of similar sizes, but this event is one, big absolute bracket :). There are no separate weight, gender, or skill divisions. One division. One bracket.

Submission only. If no submission occurs, opponents will be reset to standing and whoever scores the first point wins. IBJJF point system. All matches will be refereed by an IBJJF-certified black belt.

We will follow the IBJJF rule set, as you would see it implemented in the brown/black belt no-gi divisions, with some notable exceptions, regarding grips and uniforms (see below).

Competitors are encouraged to get creative with their attire: tuxedos, prom dresses, Halloween costumes… it’s all good! During the competition, fighters are allowed to grab, pull and twist on anything attached to their opponents’ bodies (with the exception of rash guards and other undergarments) so please avoid wearing anything sharp or otherwise hazardous to grapplers. Furthermore, Open Source Jiu-Jitsu will provide backup attire should you not have an outfit or if your clothes get torn badly during competition.

WHEN

Saturday, October 25, 2025 ~ Time: 4:00-6:00 PM. Competitors must arrive between 3:00-3:30 PM to go over the rules, warm up, ask questions and meet-and-greet. We'll probably wrap up by 6:00 PM-ish.
