Grapple for Good is a non-traditional, fun (“not-so-serious”) Jiu-Jitsu tournament to benefit Homeward Bound of Western North Carolina and their programs serving veterans in need. While the tournament itself follows a more traditional scoring scheme and ruleset, competitors are encouraged to get creative with their attire and have fun while competing in a friendly manner to help better serve less fortunate members of our community.
100% of registration fees and spectator contributions will be donated to Homeward Bound.

What is Homeward Bound?

"We’re a nonprofit organization ending homelessness in Buncombe and Henderson Counties of North Carolina. More than that, we’re non-judgmental staff, volunteers, board members, and people knowledgeable in social work disciplines who believe in the “Housing First” national best practice for ending homelessness. Mostly, we’re people who care about the most vulnerable among us enough to do something about it."

WHO
Anyone from any school and any level is invited to participate and have fun all while helping community members in need. Spectators are encouraged to come and support their friends, support Homeward Bound and simply have a good time supporting the Asheville BJJ community.

WHAT
While the ruleset and point system will closely resemble that of the IBJJF brown/black belt division , competitors are encouraged to get creative with their attire: tuxedos, prom dresses, Halloween costumes… it’s all good! During the competition, fighters are allowed to grab, pull and twist on anything attached to their opponents’ bodies (with the exception of rash guards and other undergarments) so please avoid wearing anything sharp or otherwise hazardous to grapplers. Furthermore, Open Source Jiu-Jitsu will provide backup attire should you not have an outfit or if your clothes get torn badly during competition.

WHEN
Sunday, October 29, 2017 at 2 PM. We encourage competitors to arrive at least 45 minutes early to go over the ruleset, warm up, ask questions and meet-and-greet.

WHERE
Open Source Jiu-Jitsu, 357 Gorman Bridge Rd, Asheville, NC 28806

COST
Participants are asked to make a minimum donation of $35 to register. Spectators are free but are encouraged to donate a small admission fee or bring household goods that can be donated to Homeward Bound ( see a list of items here ). 100% of registration fees  and donations will go to Homeward Bound WNC and their programs assisting people who are homeless in Buncombe and Henderson Counties.
